Uprights are standing monuments, and are usually in designated sections in cemeteries. Uprights come in many different shapes, one of the most utilized being serpentine tops, (usually shortened to serp-top). Serp-tops have a gentle curve at the top of the monument, with flat edges on the front, back and sides. With a serp top, as with most uprights, there is ample room to carve designs because you can utilize all visible sides of the monument.
